Hospital Attachment

Last Wednesday we had a session called the Hospital Attachment where each SGD group was assigned to a specialist and we will get the chance to experience a day of being a doctor meaning that the specialist is going to show us what it really is like to be a doctor including the ward round, surgery and non stop standing for hours!

My group was assigned to be with Dr. Wan Azman who is from the Reconstructive Science Unit. At first I thought that it would be a boring day but it turned out that I had a great experience that day. There are eight people in my group and we further divided according to gender. So the girls follow Dr. Kathleen to the OPERATION THEATRE first while the boys went for the ward round with Dr. Arman. I was indeed very excited because it was my first time entering the OT. We changed our attire into the OT attire and went into the OT.

Since the operation is yet to start, we went to other OT and watch the doctors performing the surgery which if I was not mistaken has been going for hours. Other than Dr. Wan Azman, there was another specialist who I assumed was one of the specialist for anaesthetic and I respected him so much. He is the type of person who is willing to teach you and share his knowledge at anytime. Our operation took nearly three hours. Alhamdulillah, I can still feel my feet when it was finally over. There was also a senior who at first I thought was one of the M.O because the way he conduct the procedure did not show that he is still a student. I wanna be like him one day, insyaAllah.

I had my lunch with Maria as coincidentally she has also finished her session after I've changed into my own clothes back. Finally I got to taste the spaghetti in Harmony Cafe and it was surprisingly good and the portion is quite big as well.

From this hospital attachment, my respect towards the doctors shoot up like a rocket shooting to the moon. They were really good and they really know what they were doing and time has never been a big matter for them as the priority is to save the patient. I pray that one day I am going to be like the doctors who I met that day.

p/s : The atmosphere of the OT is not as scary as shown in the movie.

Rain

Alhamdulillah it is raining again. It means that the temperature will be low tonight. It has been quite a heaty night for this previous days that I have to study on the cemented floor since there is no air conditioner around here. I love the rain and I'm getting immune to it since I am leaving in the east coast and there will be rainy season at the end of the year annually. The umbrella is as important as your handphone during those days. I hope that the weather will be just fine during my parents's visit on this Friday and Saturday.

p/s : Waktu hujan ialah antara waktu mustajab untuk berdoa.

Inspired

Last week we had a talk with Dr. Zabidi. He is a paeditrician. I admired him so much for his character and the way he think. I think if there are more people like him in this world, great things would happen. His experience, knowledge and his good heart made him who he is today. Here is some advices from him :

Medicine is not all about the knowledge but also how you carry yourself meaning your style. He said that he failed his postgraduate exam once because he did not has the "style". Comparing us Asians to the Europians,  even though we may have more knowledge than them, they are better in terms of the "style". He even said that if he can scoop our brain and squeeze our idea, he can make great things.

Studying alone is like committing suicide in medicine. His daughter failed in medschool and the reason was because she did not has any study group. He said that he is grateful that she failed in her exam so that she know she has done a mistake. Prof Zabidi also said that you may excel in the exam after studying alone but then the knowledge will not stay long. You tend to forget as you are in the clinical years, meaning that our memorization is better when we study in groups. The more you share your knowledge with your friends, the more rewards you'll get.

Another advice from him is to write down the thoughts we have in our mind. He said that sometimes, we have so many thing in our mind, so many great ideas but we failed to express our ideas. It is a way to purify our 'serabut'ness. We should also read novels to help us in expressing our words. I think I have this problem where I wanna say something but I couldn't find the right word to say it out.

Passing and failing is the part of the process and should be something that you are thankful for.

Prof. Zabidi recommended us to read a book called Parting Vision. I have read some of the stories in this book and will continue on. InsyaAllah.

Black Kittty

There is this one day last year *as if it sounds like a long time ago* when we had a meeting for FeSKI : Explorace. It was held in Surau Murni and there was a family of black cat who has a become permanent citizen in the surau. There was this one little black cat who was actually the cutest one compared to the others but I don't know why it was so so so active that night that it was practically jumping and running everywhere. Even all the stationeries in Syibeng's pencil case was all over the place. Pen drive at one corner, pens at the other corner. At one point, it turned from one the most adorable to one of the most annoying cat. It was even jumping around trying to catch the small butterfly.

Date Vinegar

I have been taking vitamins since I was a kid but you know children never know the importance of vitamin and the cost of it. So, I always skip eating the vitamins so it is quite rare for me to even finish one small bottle. Appeton, Champs, Scott Emulsion, you name it.

I've start taking vitamins again last year when I started my foundation studies. My mum gave me Blackmores' Evening Primrose Oil. So I just take whatever she gave me and soon after I've finished my foundation, I stop consuming that vitamin as well. Now I start my new journey in this medschool and the schedule are so packed that I always feel tired and sleepy to the state where I can sleep whenever or wherever I want. This time, my mum bought me Blackmores' Multivitamins + Minerals. Well, actually I was the one who requested this vitamin after my friend recommended it. I don't know what is the effect actually but I just took a pill daily.

In Nurani, we have ta'lim weekly from Kak Leny and last week, she recommended us to take vinegar date daily. I know about the vinegar since my roommate, Maria has it but I never know that it was so good. When I said good I am not referring to the taste but it's nutrition. Truthfully, the taste was not nice but it is still bearable. Well, what can you expect from vinegar? Since my parents are coming this weekend, I want to take them to Jafar Rawas so that I can buy this vinegar.

First ; Better

This would be my first post since I start this new block. This would also be my first post for this new year. It is already 2013!!! Who says the world is going to end on 2012. Please people. Believe in qada' and qadar. Even the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w never mentioned when is the exact date of the end of the world. So who are we to predict when the world is going to end?

On the month of June this year, I am turning TWENTY (20). Two digit number that starts with a two. How fast time flies that it feels only yesterday I've graduated from high school. I hope as my age increase, I will be a better servant to Allah, a better dai'e, a better caliph, a better daughter, a better friend, a better student and I wanna be the best I can be. InsyaAllah.
